Who we are
Daily OS is an Android app operated by Ashish Salve (Daily OS), India. For anything about your data, write to careernest.app@gmail.com.
What Daily OS collects
Most of what Daily OS stores is information you add. By category:
- Account: email address, name, username, optional profile photo and how you sign in (email and password, Google, or an emailed code).
- Health & fitness: step counts (from your phone's step sensor and, if you allow it, your past steps read from Android Health Connect), walks, workouts, body weight, water, caffeine, medications and doses, nutrition, breathing sessions and mood check-ins.
- Location: precise location only while you are recording a walk, shown by an ongoing notification, to draw your route and measure distance. Daily OS does not track your location in the background.
- Money: accounts, transactions, budgets, recurring payments, savings goals and bill splits that you enter. Daily OS never connects to your bank and never asks for card numbers.
- Your content: tasks, habits, plans, journal entries, notes, courses, books, goals, alarms and focus sessions.
- Friends: your public profile (username, name, photo), friend connections, messages, challenges, weekly stats you choose to compare, and bill splits you share.
- Screen time: if you set app limits, per-app usage time from Android Usage Access and the app currently in the foreground (see permissions below).
- Purchases: subscription status and purchase identifiers from Google Play, and coupon codes you redeem. We never see your payment card.
- Technical: our backend and website providers log IP addresses and device information for security and to keep the service running.
How we use it
- To run the features you use: show your day, remind you, count steps, draw routes, compute progress and insights.
- To sync your data to your account so it is backed up and available after you reinstall or change phones.
- To connect you with friends you add and share only what you choose to share with them.
- To check your subscription or coupon and provide support.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not use your data for advertising and we do not build profiles to sell.
Health Connect
With your permission, Daily OS reads your daily step totals from Android Health Connect to fill in your step history. It only reads steps, never writes to Health Connect, and uses the data only to show your steps, streaks and progress in the app. It is never used for advertising, sold, or shared with anyone except the friends you choose to compare stats with.
The use of information received from Health Connect will adhere to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Permissions Daily OS asks for
Every permission is optional and requested only when you turn on the feature that needs it. You can revoke any of them in Android settings.
- Physical activity — count steps with the phone's sensor.
- Health Connect (read steps) — import your past daily step totals written by other apps. Daily OS only reads steps and does not write to Health Connect.
- Location (while using the app) — record walk routes. A foreground notification is shown while a walk is being recorded.
- Notifications, alarms & reminders — alarms, habit, water and medication reminders.
- Usage access and Accessibility service — only for app limits. The accessibility service detects which app is opened so Daily OS can show its pause screen. It does not read what is on your screen, what you type, or any content from other apps, and this information never leaves your phone.
- Do Not Disturb access — silence notifications during a Focus session if you ask it to.
- Photos — only when you pick a profile photo.
- Battery optimisation exemption — so alarms ring on time on phones that stop apps in the background.
Where your data is stored and how it is protected
On your phone, Daily OS keeps your data in a database encrypted with AES-256 (SQLCipher); the key stays in Android's secure storage. When you are signed in, your data syncs to your account on Appwrite Cloud in Singapore over encrypted connections (TLS). Passwords are handled by Appwrite and are never stored by Daily OS. This website and the subscription service run on Cloudflare.
Who we share data with
We do not sell or rent your data. We use a small number of service providers who process data only to provide Daily OS:
- Appwrite — accounts, sign-in and sync (Singapore).
- Google Play — payments and subscriptions.
- Android Health Connect — on your device; Daily OS reads your steps there with your permission.
- CARTO and OpenStreetMap — map tiles for walk maps. Loading a map sends your IP address and the map area being viewed to CARTO.
- Cloudflare — this website, coupons and subscription checks.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Friends and shared features
Your username, name and photo are visible to people who search for you. Messages, challenges, compared weekly stats and bill splits are visible to the friends involved. You can remove friends, and block or report anyone, in the app.
How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your synced data is erased right away and your account record is removed within 7 days. Our providers may keep encrypted backups for a limited time before they are overwritten. Google Play keeps its own purchase records under Google's policies.
Your choices and rights
- See and edit your data in the app at any time.
- Export finance data as CSV from the app; ask us for a copy of anything else.
- Withdraw a permission in Android settings; the related feature stops.
- Delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or request deletion on the web.
- Ask us to correct or delete information, or raise a concern, by writing to careernest.app@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.
Children
Daily OS is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you are under 18, use Daily OS only with a parent's or guardian's consent. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
